A library book borrowed from a library in England has been returned to a library in Kentucky.
Roderick Bailey’s The Wildest Province: SOE In the Land of the Eagle was originally lent out by Dudley Library in the West Midlands in 2009.
Then, this May, it turned up at the Boone County Public Library in Kentucky.
Librarians at the Boone County Public Library emailed the Dudley Library to let them know they had found the book and to offer to ship it back to them.
The Dudley Library told the Boone County Public Library to keep the book as a sign of a new friendship between the two libraries.
Neither library is aware of who borrowed the book, or why they returned in eight years late and on a different continent.
With fines at 20p (26¢) per day, the person would be looking at a fine of more than £600 ($770), however, the library caps fines at £4 ($5).
